Agra

Agra
   This important town (one of the capitals of the Mughal Empire during the 16th and 17th centuries) was founded by the Lodi ruler Sikandar Shah (1489-1517). It served as the army headquarters of the Lodi Empire to exercise effective control over neighboring tracts in Rajputana and central parts of Gangetic Doab. Sikandar Lodi also built a palace there in 1495, a part of which, now known as Barahdari, survives near Sikandara. Many of the large number of buildings erected by Sikandar Lodi were possibly destroyed in the devastating earthquake of 1504.
